Mark Bennett, Republican candidate for State Senate District 17, receives the coveted endorsement from LIFEPAC,
the political action committee of South Carolina Citizens for Life.
The right to life is the first civil right, and without this there can be no other rights. I deeply appreciate the LIFEPAC endorsement. I live and breathe the efforts of pro-life organizations.
Mark, being a Christian Conservative Republican, states the following:"The right to life is the first civil right, and without this there can be no other rights. I deeply appreciate the LIFEPAC endorsement. I live and breathe the efforts of pro-life organizations.
"My son, John Mark, was born with a severe congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
My wife was having an ultrasound done around five months pregnant when the technician informed us (with a tear in her eye) that there were complications. A few days later a level two ultrasound was done in Charlotte, N.C. where the doctor told us that our son would be born with virtually no diaphragm.
He proceeded to tell us that the chance of survival was extrememly low and that our child would probably never walk, talk, or eat. He might be a vegetable all of his life and the probability of other genetic defects was present. After birth, the hospital would make him comfortable until he passed away or they could perform an abortion that afternoon.
Needless to say, we left the hospital in tears and in prayer."
"Six weeks of research offered only slightly better survival rates. Easter Sunday our prayers were answered when my wife discovered Dr. David Kays at the University of Florida Shands Children's Hospital. Dr. Kays has a 92% survival rate for children with CDH regardless of the severity.
To make a long story short, John Mark is a smart, happy, and very active little fellow who will be turning five in June. He is high-maintenance, but definitely a blessing."
"Our other son, James, fell from a tree and suffered a traumatic brain injury in October of 2006. He was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center and underwent brain surgery that night. He recovered quickly and just the other night hit a triple in his baseball game.
He won a practice spelling bee in his first grade class and went on to win a spot in the final spelling bee representing his class at Lewisville Elementary. "I could go on and on about my family forever.
I constantly have pro-life views confirmed and reinforced.
I look forward to working with LIFEPAC and the citizens of District 17 to further enhance the protection of pre-born children and the medically fragile members of society."
I am a Christian constitutional conservative.
I will be a State Senator who truthfully represents the interest of the people.
